How to Measure for an Outdoor Furniture Cover (Size Chart Included)
A cover only protects your furniture if it fits. If it's too small, it won't reach the ground and rain gets underneath. If it's too big, wind gets inside and it flaps, pools water, or blows off. The good news is that measuring takes about two minutes and one tape measure.
This guide shows you exactly what to measure for each type of patio furniture, then matches your numbers to the right Khomo Gear cover size.
What you need
- A tape measure (a soft sewing tape or a metal one both work)
- Your phone, to write down three numbers per piece
The 3 measurements every cover needs
Every cover size is listed as Width (or Length) × Depth × Height, in inches.
- Width / Length: Measure side to side at the widest point. On chairs and sofas, that's usually across the armrests, not the seat.
- Depth: Measure front to back at the deepest point. Include anything that sticks out, such as the curve of a back or the legs of a chaise.
- Height: Measure from the ground to the highest point, usually the top of the backrest.
Tip: Round up, never down. If your love seat measures 56 inches wide, pick a 58-inch cover, not a 48-inch one. A cover that's slightly roomy slides on easily and still sits snug once it's cinched. A cover that's too tight stresses the seams.
Patio chairs
Measure across the armrests (width), from the front of the seat to the back of the backrest (depth), and from the ground to the top of the backrest (height).

Love seats and outdoor sofas
Measure the full length across both armrests, the depth from the front edge of the seat to the back of the frame, and the height to the top of the back.

Pick the length first, then the depth. Deep-seat sofas with thick cushions usually need the deeper option.
Patio tables and dining sets
This is where people most often buy the wrong cover, so check which kind you need.
Table only (round tables). The Round Patio Table Cover covers the table itself, and your chairs stay outside it. Measure the diameter across the top and the height to the tabletop.

Side tables, coffee tables and ottomans. The Table Outdoor Cover comes in 9 sizes, from a 16" × 16" ottoman up to a 70" × 34" coffee table, so measure length × depth × height and pick the closest size that's at least as big.
Chaise lounges
Measure with the backrest in the position you'll store it in (fully upright is the safe bet). Measure width across the frame, length from the foot to the back of the backrest, and height to the top of the backrest.
